Deacs End Losing Streak with Win Over Furman

Men's tennis remains undefeated at home.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest ended a three-match slide with a 5-2 victory over Furman at the Indoor Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon. The Deacons (7-8), whom rose 15 spots in this week rankings to 43rd, are undefeated at home this season, 5-0.

The Deacons won the top four flight singles matches and the doubles point. Furman (9-10) won the bottom two singles matches.

Wake Forest senior Myles Clouston won his third consecutive match. He defeated Lee Nicknell at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4. It was his seventh win at the No. 1 flight position this season. Johan Hansen earned his second victory of the season at No. 2 singles in a three-set win. Justin Kaufmann and Hayes Calvert also picked up wins for the Deacons.

Wake Forest will continue its homestand later this week. The Deacons will play a doubleheader at Leighton Stadium on Friday, March 26. Wake will take on conference rival Maryland at 2:30 p.m., then non-conference foe East Tennessee State at 6 p.m.
