Wake Forest Drops to 11th after 36 Holes of Lady Gamecock

Women's golf unable to improve on first round score.

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team was unable to improve on its first round score and fell from eighth place to 11th place after two rounds at the Lady Gamecock Classic. The 54-hole event is being contested at the 5,996-yard, par-72, University Club in Blythewood, SC.

The Demon Deacons recorded a team round of 321 on Saturday and stand at 316-321=637. That score puts them well off the pace of team leader Duke, which is at 5-over-par, 287-294=581. The Blue Devils' Jenny Chuasiriporn continued her strong play as she carded a 2-under-par 70 on Saturday and continues to lead the individual standings by 10 strokes at 8-under-par, 66-70=136

Sophomore Marta Prieto (Sevilla, Spain) leads the Deacon individuals in the event, after she carded a 77 on Saturday to stand at 12-over-par, 79-77=156 among four players in 24th place. Right behind Prieto is junior Kelly Kirwin (Grand Rapids, MN), who is one of 11 players tied for 28th place at 79-78=157.

Senior Kristen Wagner (Martinsville, IN) is only one shot behind Kirwin as she stands in a three-way tie for 39th place at 78-80=158. Rounding out the Deacon contingent in the field is freshman Nicole Faniola (Old Lyme, CT),who is tied for 60th place at 80-86=166. The final Wake Forest competitor, freshman Katie Brenny (Little Falls, MN), withdrew in the first round of play.

The Lady Gamecock Classic concludes tomorrow with the third and final round of play.
