Women's Golf in Third After 18 at ACC Championship
Brenny leads Deacons with in fifth with a 73.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Duke women's golf team secured a 3-over-par 291 in
Friday's first round of the 1999 ACC Women's Golf Championship, jumping out
to a nine-stroke lead in the event. The tournament is being played at the
Grandover East Golf Course for the second-straight year and the third time
in the last four seasons. Florida State stands second at 300, Wake Forest
is third at 303, and North Carolina is fourth at 313. The Blue Devils are
shooting for the program's fourth-straight ACC Championship and the seventh
in school history.
Three players are tied for the individual lead in the event with a
one-under-par 71. Duke freshman Beth Bauer, the No. 1 ranked player in the
country, joined Duke senior Jenny Chuasiriporn and Florida State senior Amy
Bond in a tie for first. Florida State senior Erika Iding is fourth at 72,
while Wake Forest freshman Katie Brenny stands fifth at 73.
North Carolina junior March Newton, who collected a 79 in the first
round, recorded a hole-in-one on the par three, No. 12 hole.
Grandover East is a par 72, 5,950-yard layout in Greensboro. The
ACC Championship will continue on Saturday and Sunday with tee times both
days starting at 7:48 a.m.
