Wake Forest Women's Soccer Falls To No. 6 Portland

Despite Mathews goal, Deacs lose second day of invitational.

PORTLAND, OR - Portland's Vanessa Talbott scored two goals to lead the 6th-ranked Pilots (4-0) to a 4-1 victory over Wake Forest (3-1-1) on Sunday afternoon in the second round of the Portland/Adidas Invitational.

Portland jumped on the scoreboard first at the 8:13 mark in the first half when Brook O'Hankey found the back of the net from 12 yards out. The Pilots stretched the lead to 3-0 with goals from Kylee Barton and 21:59 Talbott at 25:03.

Wake Forest cut the lead to 3-1 just before halftime when Stefanie Mathews scored her second goal of the season at 43:35 off a pass from Sarah Kate Noftsinger.

Portland held the Deacs scoreless in the second half and added an insurance goal at 52:13 when Talbott scored her second goal of the game. Wake Forest will return to action on Friday, Sept. 18, when the Demon Deacons open the ACC season at Florida State.
